I LOVE August! Not only is it school holidays but my birthday is at the beginning of the month. The top picture is of the cow and mule my family gave me to brighten up the garden. Actually on my birthday, we went to Waddeston Manor which is a huge old house near where we live. It was a great day and I had a day off writing, which I badly needed. I’ve been working flat out on my next book. I’ve completed the first draft and the plot is now more or less where I want it to be.
I will now start re-editing it. My main character is undeveloped and a bit boring and I need to work on the friendship she has with her big sister.
During the last week of August I’ll write less as I’m leading drama workshops at our church’s holiday club with key stage 2 children. It’ll be fun and probably a little bit chaotic.
Then we are all back at school and autumn will be here. But before I go, look at this photograph. I live in Buckinghamshire, nowhere near the sea, but our carnival this year had a beach theme and they created a spectacular beach.
Lastly, if you’re looking for something creative to do, make character cards for people to write about. What does your character look like, do on a Tuesday evening, like to eat, do on holiday and what would you say to him/her if you met in a café for a milkshake?
Enjoy getting to know your new teacher, as well!
